Understanding product movements from stocktakes

For the product location you actually counted on the stocktake line:

  • If the product has not yet been counted since you started stocktaking, a product movement is created to clear the current stock on hand to zero. If the product had stock on hand, this will normally appear as a product movement with a negative value. A second product movement will be created with a positive value to put back the stock you counted. For example if you had ten on hand and you counted eight. Two product movements would be created. First a negative stock movement for a quantity of ten to remove the old stock. Secondly a positive stock movement of eight to put back the stock you counted.

  • If the product has been counted since you started stocktaking, a product movement is created to add the quantity counted on this stocktake line to the stock on hand. For example if you had ten on hand and you counted eight, one product movements would be created. A positive stock movement of eight to make your total stock on and be eighteen. Being the ten that was already there and the additional eight you counted on the stocktake line.

If the stocktake mode is immediate, other product locations for the same product may be effected:

  • Any other product locations that have not been counted will have their stock on hand cleared
