Meter pricing
Overview
The page below provides some worked examples of how meter pricing can work in practice.
Meter pricing rules overview
Meter Price type | For Child meters | For Total Meters | Charge To (1) | Comment |
---|---|---|---|---|
Count | X | Optional | ||
Count with Qty Break | X | Optional | ||
Initial Charge | X | Optional | ||
Maximum | Optional | |||
Minimum | Optional | Based on the minimum quantity specified less the quantity counted | ||
Minimum total count (1) | X | Optional | See comment (1) below | |
Rolling minimum | Optional |
(1) Charge to on meter prices on child meters is not compatible with having a minimum total count on a total meter. The total meter charge may override the charge to on the child meters.
Meter pricing worked examples
(0) Example | (1) Meter Price Line | (2) Price Type | (3) Quantity Break | (4) Meter Price Value (Ex) | (5) Actual Count Quantity (copy clicks) | (6) Price Calculation | (7) Average Click Price | (8) ValueEx ((5) * (7)) | Explanation |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
(A) Simple Count | |||||||||
1 of 1 | Count | 0 | $0.01 | 1000 | (4) = $0.01 | (4) 0.01 | $10.00 | Charge the actual copy count (copy clicks) x meter product price | |
Quantity Break Count | |||||||||
1 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.02 (4.1) | 500 | 0.02 (4.1) | $10.00 | Charge the copy clicks x meter product price as the copy clicks are less than the maximum qty break on that meter 500 is less than the second-meter product qty break of 800 Charge 500 x $0.02 = $10 | ||
2 of 2 | Count | 800 | $0.01 (4.2) | 1000 | (4.2) = $0.01 | (4.2) 0.01 | $10.00 | If the Copy clicks are greater than the largest quantity break on the meter product price, then the price will apply from the largest quantity break price line. Just like product price level quantity breaks on products. If the copy clicks are less than the largest quantity break on the meter product price then the price will apply from the smallest quantity price break. 1000 is greater than the qty break on the meter price Charge 1000 x 0.01 = $10 | |
Initial Charge | |||||||||
Example A | 1 of 2 | Initial Charge | 1000 | $30.00 | 800 | (4) = $30.00 | $30.00 | $30 | If the actual copy clicks count is less than the quantity break. Charge only the value of this meter price line. Do not charge for any other meter price lines on this meter. That is the Initial charge meter product price will apply. |
2 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.01 (4.1) | 800 | N/A | N/A | 0 | Charge the $30 from the initial charge and no copy count charges as the count is less than the qty break. | |
Example C | 1 of 2 | Initial charge | 0 | $30 | 0 | NA | $30 | charge initial charge only as there are no copy clicks Charge initial charge of $30 plus (0-0) X 0.01 = 0 x 0.01 + $30 = $30.00 ex | |
2 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.01 | 0 | na | charge initial charge only as there are no copy clicks | |||
Example B | 1 of 2 | Initial Charge | 500(3.1) | $30.00 (4) | 800 | (4) $30.00 | $30 plus $3 is shown below for the count variance X count price. | If the actual copy count is greater than the quantity break. Charge the initial charge value of this meter price line. Plus charge for any other meter price lines on this meter. Charge the $30 from the initial charge plus the charge from this line for the difference in the copy counts 800 is greater than the qty break Charge initial charge of $30 plus (800 - 500) X 0.01 = 300 x 0.01 + $30 = $33.00 | |
2 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.01 (4.2) | 800 (5.2) | ((5.2) - (3.1)) * (4.2) = $3 | 0.01 (4.2) | $3.00 | ||
Minimum | |||||||||
Example A | 1 of 2 | Minimum | 1000(3.1) | $0.20(4.1) | 800(5) | (5) * (4.2) + ((3.1) - (5)) * (4.1) | $0.06 | $48 | If the count variance (copy clicks) is less than the minimum qty break charge the count x count price plus the count variance x min price (800 x 0.01) + (1000 - 800 x 0.20) = $8 + $40 = $48 |
2 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.01 (4.2) | ||||||
Example B | 1 of 2 | Minimum | 1000(3.1) | $0.20(4.1) | 1200(5) | (5) * (4.2) | $0.01 | $12 | If the count variance (copy clicks) is greater than the minimum qty break, charge only the count x count price 1200 x 0.01 = $12 |
2 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.01 (4.2) | ||||||
Maximum | |||||||||
(0) Example | (1) Meter Price Line | (2) Price Type | (3) Quantity Break | (4) Meter Price Value (Ex) | (5) Actual Count Quantity (copy clicks) | (6) Price Calculation | (7) Average Click Price | (8) ValueEx ((5) * (7)) | Explanation |
Example A | 1 of 2 | Maximum | 1000(3.1) | $0.20(4.1) | 1500(5) | (4.2) * (3.1) + ((5) - (3.1)) * (4.1) | $0.073 | $110 | If your count quantity is greater than your maximum quantity break, charge the max qty break qty x meter copy click price plus the count variance X by the maximum meter price |
2 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.01(4.2) | ||||||
Example B | 1 of 2 | Maximum | 1000(3.1) | $0.20(4.1) | 800(5) | (5)*(4.2) | $0.01 | $8 | If the count quantity (variance) is less than your maximum quantity break, charge the copy click count x count price The maximum product meter price will not apply at all 800 x 0.01 = $8 |
2 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.01(4.2) | ||||||
Example C | 1 of 2 | Maximum | 1000(3.1) | $0.20(4.1) | 1500(5) | (4.2) * (3.1) + ((5) - (3.1)) * (4.1) | $0.067 | $100 | If you wish to not charge for any copy clicks up to a qty break but charge any clicks after that qty break. If you count quantity is greater than your maximum quantity, charge the count maximum qty plus the variance times the maximum price (1500 x 0.00) + (1000 - 1500 x 0.20) = $100 |
2 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.00(4.2) | ||||||
Example D | 1 of 3 | Initial charge | 1 | $200 | You want to charge a fixed price, along with no charges for the first 1000 copy clicks plus any additional copy clicks over 1000 | ||||
2 of 3 | Count | 0 | $0.00 | First 1000 copy clicks are at $0 | |||||
3 of 3 | Maximum | 1010 | $0.012 | Charge the copy clicks counts that exceed 1000 at the max copy click price. That is 10 @ 0.012 If the copy clicks exceed 1000, charge firstly the initial charge of $200 + 10 @ 0.012 = $1.20 + $200 = $201.20 | |||||
Minimum Total Count | This applies only to a total meter | ||||||||
Example A | 1 of 2 | Minimum Total Count | 1(3.1) | $200(4.1) | 1200(5) | (5)*(4.2) | $0.30 | $360 | If the sum of all the meter count values is larger than total minimum charge on the total meter, then charge the count values |
2 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.30(4.2) | ||||||
Example A | 1 of 2 | Minimum Total Count | 1(3.1) | $200(4.1) | 600(5) | (3.1)*(4.1) | $0.333 | $200 | If the sum of all the meter count values is less than total minimum charge on the total meter, then charge the total minimum charge |
2 of 2 | Count | 0 | $0.30(4.2) | ||||||
