The five factors that will determine the success of your training and of the project

There are five factors that will determine the success of your training program and of the project:

    1. The training budget, in terms of on site and remote training days. This is the most important aspect of your training plan. After reading the notes below and discussions with Readysell, you have to decide how much you plan to spend on training. This will shape the rest of the training plan. Start by planning the number of onsite training days. You can have a premium experience by having Readysell team members on site. But each day on site is charged. If you don't watch out you can get a big surprise at the end of the project by spending a lot more on training than you would have expected.

    2. The IT and learning skills of your team. This is the second most important aspect of your training plan. While the learning required from some of your operational team members is fairly mechanical. The learning skills of your key team members such as purchasing and bookkeeping are critical to the training project. Some dealers have more team members that are very IT savvy and learn new things quickly. Other dealers have staff that are more set in their ways and less able/willing to learn. For the training to be successful, Readysell has to start with a good understanding of:

      1. who is being trained

      2. how IT savvy are they are

      3. how quickly might they be expected to learn and take on new things

    3. Your training expectations, are the third most important asked of the training plan. This will have a huge effect on your training budget and training plan. For example all of the following expectations may not be best practice, but are valid, as long as we plan on them from the start:

      1. Readysell to "spoon feed" every bit of training to every staff member. Expensive, but can be done. Suits dealers with low IT savvy and less comfort with learning new things.

      2. To only make use of a few basics and never use many of Readysell's more advanced features. Economical, but does not get the best from your Readysell. Suits dealers who are comfortable with the basics and don't have the desire or team to make use of best practice.

      3. To move your business to best practice right away. Not stopping at basics on the go live day, but continuing your training program to push on with advanced features right away as soon as the system is live. Expensive, but the benefits far outweigh the costs. Brings the best cost benefit as dealers tend to settle down into the practices they implement at go live. Unless you move to best practice right away there is a tenancy to just stay at the level you were at around go live date

      4. To use the huge list of training resources to do all training yourself with minimal assistance from Readysell. Economical, suits dealers with a tight budget, very high IT skills and a team of fast learners. Risky, but can work if it suits your team

    4. Your teams ability to put time into self training.  The most common problem we get is that dealers team members don't put time into self training between Readysell training sessions. Most dealers are not in a position to do this successfully. Be honest with yourself and with Readysell. Also be willing to adjust your plans and either push self training harder or get more help from Readysell depending on how self training is progressing in your business. Self training can work very well, for it to do so:
      1. You will have to give your team members a copy of the training plan
      2. schedule agreed times with your team members to conduct their self training
      3. follow up your team members daily and check they are doing the self training
      4. discuss progress with Readysell weekly
      5. contract Readysell early in the project if the above is not working out for you
      5. Sticking with the plan. Knowing all the points above, you have to find a way to make a plan based on those points and stick to it. Many dealers try to proceed without a plan or work out their own training process. Involve Readysell in making your training plan then stick to it, it's a sure recipy for a successful implementation.
