Selling less than a meter of a product sold by the meter

Overview
There are some products that are normally sold by a length, such as a meter, but which you might want to sell by smaller units, such as half meter or centimetre:
- If the product is not stock controlled this is easy, just enter the length required, for example 1.5 meters
- If the product is stock controlled, you can only sell the product in whole units, but you can sell it by meter, half meter, centimetre etc. To sell 1.5 meters you would sell one meter and one half meter. You can specify any units you like. So you can make up the length you need.
The reason why you have to sell stocked products is so FIFO costing can link the sale line to a reeipt line to calculate the cost. FIFO cost is a great way to check that
Procedure for stocked products
Select "Administration" from the navigation panel then select "Product Units"
Make sure the units you are going to use for your meter product exist. For example meter(100), half meter (500) and centimetre (1). If they do not exist, create them.
Setup your product that is sold by the meter to sell by the meter (100), being 100 centimetres. Set the product up to be purchased by the meter(100) as well.
Save the product, then add centimetre and half meter to the product units for the product
When you are selling less than a meter, just enter two lines on the sale one for the meters and one for the half meters or centimetres.
