Overview

A price category allows you to specify a particular markup from cost price that can then be applied to a variety of products at a time. Price categories can be set to default onto all new products and can be set to only effect some price levels. Price categories are commonly used to:

Price categories work well with mass updates. You can mass update a price category onto a group of products. Then either run your mass update again periodically to refresh your rules or manually tweek the result with a few manual changes to selected products.

This feature is not available in Readysell Lite. 


Procedure

  1. In the navigation panel, click on Advanced and on Administration and then click on Price CategoryCategories.
  2. Click New to create a new price category.
  3. Enter the following details:
    • Code is a short name for your price category. You can name your categories by what they do (e.g. "10 PER" for a 10% discount) or by what customers they apply to (e.g. "EDU" for educational pricing). We suggest you use a consistent and understandable naming scheme.
    • Minimum Cost and Maximum Cost let you apply the price category to products that fall within a particular cost range. If you enter a minimum and maximum cost, you must select at least one supplier.
  4. In the Suppliers tab, enter the suppliers for whom you want to apply this discount. You can enter more than one supplier here.
  5. In the Price Category Lines tab, enter lines for the price category. See Price Category Lines for more information on this step.
  6. When you have finished, click Save to save the price category.

Checking Price Categories

  1. To check which products are in a price category.  
  2. In the navigation panel, click on Advanced and Administration and then click on Price Category.
  3. Click on the Supplies and/or categories tabs on each price category to see which categories and/or suppliers apply for each price category.

Price category example, sell government price level at cost

If as is normal your government price level has a calculation method of fixed sell. To sell government price level at cost. Setup your price category to be markup from cost. Add government price level to the price category lines and set the markup and gp % to 0.
